From the wildfire frontlines: Flying into the flames to fight Canada's wildfires 

The first thing Conair pilot James Burdett notices when he flies into a wildfire is not the flames.

It is the smell, which follows him into the cockpit as the aircraft circles above a fire, with smoke pouring from the forest below and the familiar scent of burning wood making its way through the aircraft's pressurization system.

"You can smell the burning in the flight deck," he says. "You see walls of flames and smell the wood smoke," Burdett said in an interview with Yahoo News Canada. Read more on Yahoo News…
